FAQs
Who is The Twelve for?
The Twelve is for anyone who has a heart to do more and grow more in Christ. As Christians, we have been charged with going into all the world and make disciples of all nations. The Twelve is built around this mandate. Participants will be put in difficult, dangerous, and uncertain situations on a regular basis to do the hard and fulfilling work of spreading the gospel and creating disciples.
When trying new things, we rarely feel fully ready. That being said, if you're ready to trust God and embark on an amazing and unforgettable experience that will build the foundation of your life and calling, then we'd love to speak with you!
How old do I have to be to join?
18 years of age or older.
We believe that discipleship is for everyone. However, given the risk involved with sharing the Gospel to all parts of the world, we require participants to be 18 years of age or older. If you are between 18 and 80, are in good health, and are ready to give everything for the cause, then we'd love to have you join us!
How do I apply?
All you need to do to start the process is fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page. Once we recieve your inquiry, we will contact you with details about what comes next.
If I can't do the full 12-month program, how else can I be involved?
We know from personal experience that discipleship takes time and consistency to be effective, and because of that, we encourage anyone who can to make the sacrifice to do the full 12 months whenever possible.
That being said, we also know that not everyone is in a place to be able to dedicate 12 months of their lives to God. As an option for those who simply can't, we would be happy to discuss how you can join any of the ministry elements that fit where you're at in life.
We have broken down the 12 months into 3, 4-month sequences. Participants are able to pick which sequences they'd like to be a part of:
-
Fall Sequence: (Sept-Dec) - Upon this Rock trip, daily discipleship, ministry travel, and additional courses
-
Spring Sequence: (Jan-April) - Includes Missions One Eleven, plus daily discipleship and ministry travel
-
Summer Sequence: (May-Aug) - Includes Sojourn Across America trip, daily discipleship, ministry travel, and additional courses.
Online Option: If you are unable to join us in person, we have a scaled-down online option available for each of the 3 sequences. While this is not the most effective discipleship strategy, we realize that for some, it may be the only option. Acceptance to the online program requires additional screening by our staff to ensure online participants will be set up for success. This goes without saying, but the online option does still require you to join the Upon this Rock, Mission One Eleven, and/or Sojourn Across America trips in person.
Trips Only: The only trips available without attending the associated sequence as a requirement are the Upon this Rock Trip and Sojourn road trip. If you are interested in this option, we'd love to discuss with you what this looks like.
NOTE: While we are open to customized applications, we unfortunately cannot guarantee space on the next available sequence unless you are joining us for the full program. Disciples of The Twelve have priority seating on each of the ministry trips.
What will the program schedule be?
Effective discipleship is dynamic. That means, how we lead, what we teach, and what we do will be dependent on the individuals that make up each team. This allows the leadership to customize the training and learning to be maximally effective.
Students will be taking a number of set courses, but how those courses are delivered and when, will be subject to the needs of the team.
To give you an idea of what the schedule might look like we have provided a sample schedule HERE.
How big will the team be?
The Twelve will only accept a maximum of 12 students per session.
Collectively, our staff have over 30 years of discipleship experience. In our experience, we have witnessed both effective and ineffective discipleship strategies. One thing we've learned is that when the team gets too large, it becomes increasingly difficult to disciple individuals in a healthy and intentional way.
Can I be married or date while with The Twelve?
We do believe that there is a healthy way to have romantic relationships as disciples. With years of discipleship experience, we have created a structure of health and accountability that we expect every disciple to implement and agree to while with us. That being said, at this time we do not have a strict no romantic relationships policy.
The Twelve is for disciples of any age and each person will be in a different place in their lives when joining us. As such, our guidelines and expectations will be considerate of each disciple's specific place. All we ask is for full transparency while we determine what health and accountability will look like for you in your specific situation.
If you are interested in joining us and have further questions, we'd be happy to speak with you.
How much does the program cost?
By Sequence:
-
Fall Sequence (Includes Mission trip to Central America): TBD

The Twelve Tuition (Includes all 3 sequences): TBD

Our goal is to create disciples, not make money. We are always working to lower the costs listed above and are open to discussing options for you. DO NOT let money be the issue that stops you from applying and joining us.
We commit to working with each participant to help however we can. If you are called, trust God and work with us.
What additional costs do I need to to consider?
Tuition does not include:
-
Food*
-
Personal expenses
-
Personal travel
*While traveling, food will be provided. Many times, disciples will be provided with food, fun outings, special events, etc., from the willingness of the community that they will be a part of. When food is not provided, we will provide cost-effective options for the team.
IMPORTANT: We know that tuition can be a challenge for many. We don't believe that finances should be a blocker to the calling that God has for you. But you have to make the decision to not let it.
If you have questions or concerns, we'd love to discuss options with you.
Can I have a job while with The Twelve if I'm doing the in-person option?
It's not a great answer, but it depends. Given the dynamic nature of discipleship, holding a normal and consistent job while with us would be challenging. We're open to discussing options, but our experiences show up that making sure you're fully devoted to the time is very important.
We believe heavily in doing all you can to move close to your calling, and if that means you'll be running a business remotely while you're with us, that's great! Our leaders will also be running businesses to provide for our families and the program.
If you are able to run your business remotely, and it doesn't disrupt your schedule too much, then we encourage that.
If I need to leave early, will my tuition be refunded?
We run this ministry to make disciples, not money. If circumstances arise that will not allow you to continue, we will work with you to figure that out!
Whatever costs the disciple incurred while with us will not be refunded.
Can I bring my pet with me?
As much as we appreciate and understand the importance of family, disciples will be constantly on the move and will have a dynamic schedule that is always subject to change. Being out of the country or on the road for weeks at a time does not create a good environment for healthy pet parenting. Because of this, we will not be able to accommodate pets while you're with us.
