OUR STORY
For more than 20 years, Upon This Rock has worked to strengthen the local Church throughout Latin America—building houses of worship, equipping leaders, and helping believers reach their communities.
Our story began on a trip to Cuba in 2003.
01 / THE BEGINNING
Cuba - 2003
They had almost nothing.
And yet, they worshiped with everything.
During a visit to the underground church in Cuba, our founders witnessed believers gathering faithfully in homes, with few of the resources we often take for granted.
They left Cuba with a question they couldn't shake:
If they can serve God with so little,
what more can we do with so much?
02 / PROJECT ONE
EL SALVADOR - 2004
Upon This Rock Ministries was formed, a team was assembled, and the vision was shared with churches to raise the support needed for the first project.
The 4 people from US partnered with men and women from El Salvador and got to work.
14.5 days later, the first church was completed!
03 / FIRST VISION FULFILLED
3 COUNTRIES, 3 CHURCHES - 2006
The original vision was clear: build a church in each of the three countries God had shown our founder.
One by one, those first projects were completed:

El Salvador.
-
Guatemala.
-
Mexico.
The first assignment had been fulfilled.
But what looked like the completion of a vision became the beginning of something much larger.
04 / THE VISION EXPANDS
BEYOND THE THREE - 2007-2026
The work expanded into Honduras and for the first time in 2007, Upon This Rock took on two church projects at once!
The ministry was evolving.
What began as building projects in 3 countries expanded to include community outreaches, kids programs, leadership training and much more, across 6 countries in Central America.
05 / MILESTONE
PROJECT 30 - 2026
In 2026, Upon This Rock completed its 30th church project with over 140 volunteers completing the project in 6 days.
Thirty houses of worship now stand as places where pastors lead, families gather, disciples are made, and communities hear the Gospel.
It is a milestone worth celebrating.
But 30 was never meant to be the finish line!
06 / WHAT'S NEXT
THE EMBASSY - TODAY & BEYOND
From Building Churches to Multiplying Leaders
The next chapter of Upon This Rock is bigger than any single building project we've done to date.
We are establishing The Embassy, an International Discipleship & Missions Center in Zacapa, Guatemala.
The location will be a permanent base to train, disciple, equip, and send the next generation of pastors and ministry leaders.
We will continue building houses of worship.
But now, we are also building the people who will carry the Gospel farther than we ever could alone.
